The system requirements for GTA 5 were announced several months before the PC version’s release — on January 13, 2015. For the next ten years, these requirements remained the baseline for running not only the story mode but also the multiplayer mode. The only notable change was the increasing disk space requirement over time.
And on January 30, 2024, Rockstar Games ended support for the Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 operating systems. While it might still be possible to run a pirated version on these three OSs and even on Vista, an officially purchased copy could encounter issues.
However, on February 20, 2025, it was announced that the game would receive a major next-gen upgrade with various technical improvements. Players were given a choice: to stay on the previous version or switch to the updated one. In the first case, the original system requirements would be sufficient, but in the second case, upgrading the computer would be necessary.

- Enhanced System Requirements (for those who installed the next-gen version)
