Elon Musk on Why He Can’t Play GTA

At the end of last year, Elon Musk — a well-known entrepreneur and the richest person on the planet — gave an interview in which, among other things, he shared his opinion on the Grand Theft Auto game series. He said that he does not like killing police officers, and without doing that in GTA 5 it is impossible to even get through the Prologue.

He had already expressed a similar view two years earlier, when he talked about the same issue being a problem for him.

According to the businessman, he does not enjoy killing NPCs in video games. This came as a surprise given claims that Musk was supposedly among the top 20 players in the world in Diablo IV, where killing enemies is a core part of the gameplay. Users questioned whether this was even possible, since achieving such a result would require an enormous amount of time — something the owner of the social network X (formerly Twitter) and CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and other companies can hardly afford due to his involvement in numerous projects. Indeed, Musk later admitted that he had used paid services that level up characters for money.

Fans of the franchise suggest that the likely first trillionaire in history may have disliked how he was portrayed in GTA Online. In December 2017, Rockstar Games released The Doomsday Heist update, in which one of the key characters was Avon Hertz — a parody of Elon Musk himself.
