Free GTA 5 and GTA Online Next-Gen Upgrade Now Available on Consoles

1For GTA 5 and GTA Online, a free update has been released that allows players who own the PS4 and Xbox One versions, but never purchased the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S editions, to enhance their experience. The upgrade grants access to all next-gen features, including technical improvements and additional content.
PlayStation 5 owners can download the update regardless of whether they own a digital or physical copy of the game. Those with a disc version will simply need to insert the disc to verify ownership.
On Xbox, however, the offer is available only to owners of the digital version. Physical copies cannot be upgraded this way due to platform limitations, according to the developers.
To begin the upgrade process, players need to visit the game's page in the respective store on their console. They can also transfer all of their existing progress.
It is clear that Rockstar Games and Take-Two decided to introduce this offer four years after the launch of the latest console re-release in an effort to encourage players who were unwilling to buy the same game yet again to finally move to more modern hardware.
