Will Next-Gen Versions of RDR 2 Finally Be Released This Year?

For RDR 2, the entire past year passed under the sign of rumors about when next-gen versions for the latest consoles would finally be released. Fans became so frustrated by the wait that they even started to suspect that these versions might not exist at all. Instead, some believed that all the talk was actually about new ports of the first game. The thing is, Rockstar Games uses internal numbering that differs from the commonly accepted one — there, RDR1 is Red Dead Revolver, RDR2 is RDR 1, and RDR3 is RDR 2.

At first, Kiwi Talkz, who regularly communicates with various developers, reassured everyone by stating that next-gen versions are indeed in development.

Later, however, he dampened expectations a bit by suggesting that the release might not happen until late 2027. This, however, was not backed by any sources and was merely the interviewer’s personal conclusion.

Now insider Nate the Hate — who back in 2025 had already predicted a release, but later simply said it would happen at some point, without naming a date — has shared new information. Supposedly, Red Dead Redemption II for Nintendo Switch 2 will indeed be released this year.

It is quite possible that alongside the NS2 version, the game will also be released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It also makes sense to assume that developers would prefer to wrap things up before the active marketing campaign for GTA 6, which, as stated, is set to begin in summer. Next to such a long-awaited video game, an updated western could easily go unnoticed. Therefore, the best window would be spring or early autumn.
