Launch Of Cfx Marketplace — An Official Platform For Selling Mods

Cfx.re, a team that is part of Rockstar Games, has announced the launch of Cfx Marketplace — a platform where creators of mods for FiveM and RedM (read: GTA 5 and RDR 2) can sell their scripts, maps, props, and much more.

About a dozen and a half authors and teams have already joined the initiative, including Razed, who brought the world such visual mods as NaturalVision Remastered, NaturalVision Evolved, and NaturalVision Enhanced. This number is expected to grow in the near future.

For the company, this is not only an opportunity to profit from a previously inaccessible “black market” of modding, but also a pretext to shut down paid releases from which it does not receive a cut.

For modders, it is a large, official platform for selling user-generated content (UGC) and earning revenue from it. A chance to move beyond donations and a very limited audience, and instead make good money while reaching a much broader user base.

However, not everyone is happy about this development. Some members of the community, who see modding as a public good, oppose such monetization. For example, the creators of Fusion Fix call for supporting free, open-source projects.
