Less than two full months after the release of the alpha version of the fan-made GTA 3 port for the Sega Dreamcast, enthusiasts have already showcased the first results of running the transferred GTA: Vice City on the console. Just a month later, this effort culminated in the release of a beta version on April 1st, which includes both games.

The progress is impressive: not only have many issues and bugs been fixed, but Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has also become fully playable on the aging console — without falling too far behind more powerful systems like the Xbox.
It’s clear that the developers plan to continue improving their project, adding original features and fixing bugs in both titles. Those interested in diving deeper into the technical side of the development can follow Falco Girgis, a member of the team who frequently shares in-depth details of the work done.

His colleague, Stefanos Kornilios Mitsis Poiitidis — who started the whole initiative — has confirmed that they won’t be able to bring GTA: San Andreas to the Dreamcast, as the project is built on the re3 and reVC frameworks. It’s worth noting that these were the same reverse engineering efforts that were shut down due to a lawsuit from Take-Two.
