Tez2 shared that someone from Rockstar Games hinted at a new GTA 4 port — which has allegedly been in development for a year now. The release is rumored to happen this year. This could be one of the reasons why the rights holder recently shut down the Liberty City Preservation Project mod. If Rockstar follows the same COVID roadmap, the next project should be porting Max Payne 3 to current-gen platforms. That would align perfectly with the ongoing Max Payne 1&2 Remake, which is fully under Rockstar’s control.
It’s worth noting that rumors of a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster have been circulating for years, so this isn’t exactly new — it’s simply resurfacing. The possibility of such a release was discussed a few years ago, but it didn’t happen at the time for two reasons: the focus on GTA 6 development and the negative reception of GTA: Trilogy — Definitive Edition due to its poor quality.
Judging by last week’s reveal, Rockstar’s next big release is shaping up well. They seem to have learned from the Trilogy’s remaster missteps. Since then, they’ve released a previously delayed and well-polished port of RDR 1, which was positively received. With this renewed approach, there’s less concern about GTA 4 and Max Payne 3 failing on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and modern PCs. In GTA IV’s case, it will most likely be The Complete Edition, which includes the story expansions GTA: The Lost and Damned and GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony. However, fans shouldn’t expect any multiplayer modes to return.
