A week ago, the UK government passed the Online Safety Act. Its goal is to protect children from harmful content such as depictions of suicide, pornography, etc. However, despite its seemingly good intentions, this initiative has another side — it significantly reduces online privacy. Many users have already started posting complaints about being required to verify their age to access sites like PornHub. Still, workarounds have already been found — one example is using photo mode in certain games (Death Stranding 2) to create realistic adult images.
According to insider Tez2, age verification (17+ for the US, 18+ for Europe) may soon be introduced in GTA Online. If you don’t complete the verification process (will this really require submitting ID?), some features such as text chat, sending SMS, Snapmatic, or even access to the game as a whole could be restricted. The first country expected to implement this change is the UK (Rockstar North, the developer, is based in Scotland). Later, the same approach may be adopted in other regions as well.
