Coming Soon to GTA Online: A New Enemy, Submarine Slasher, and More

In GTA Online, Halloween isn’t celebrated for just one night but for a whole month. This October is no exception, and the first themed week is already in full swing. However, things will really start to heat up the day after tomorrow, when more missions and activities are added, along with the start of a new GTA+ period. Some of this has already been announced by the developers, while dataminers have revealed even more.

A new zombie mode?

Back in September, it was reported that a new type of enemy would soon appear in the game. We have a few guesses about what that might mean. The most obvious one: a new variant of the Slasher Adversary Mode (more on that below). But an earlier teaser image suggests something much more intriguing. It shows a hand emerging from the ground — classic imagery of the undead rising. There are already two zombie survival modes in GTA Online: one in Ludendorff, North Yankton, and one on Cayo Perico. It looks like we might be getting a third. Judging by the tombstones, the building, and the jammer in the image, the location seems to be the Hill Valley Church in Great Chaparral, near Harmony. We might even end up traveling between several churchyards across the state — Paleto Bay, Great Chaparral, and Pacific Bluffs in Los Santos. In that case, the mode could be divided into several stages, just like the one on El Rubio’s island.

Everything points to a full-fledged zombie mode — this time, set in San Andreas itself.

The new enemy might very well be one of the creatures we’ll have to fend off. Of course, it could also be something lurking in Freemode around that area. Still, the idea of a new zombie mode sounds far more exciting. And there’s another hint supporting that theory: this week, Cayo Perico Survival pays double rewards, and from October 23 through November 5, Ludendorff Cemetery Survival will offer triple payouts. So what’s happening in the two weeks between them? Feels like the perfect time for a new undead adventure.

Halloween Adversary Modes

The lineup of Adversary Modes in the Featured Series is already set for the entire month:
  • October 2 – 8 (now) — Beast vs. Slasher;
  • October 9 – 15 — Judgement Day;
  • October 16 – 22 — Slasher — Ramius Submarine (new!);
  • October 23 – 29 — Condemned;
  • October 30 – November 5 — Slasher (includes Ramius Submarine).

Slasher — Ramius Submarine.

The Ramius Submarine isn’t the Kosatka we can buy — it’s the one we destroy during one of Doomsday Heist Acts. The Slasher mode itself is a Halloween favorite: one player, armed with a shotgun, hunts down flashlight-wielding victims in the dark for three minutes.

Spooky Weekly Challenges

Weekly Challenges and their rewards have also been confirmed:
  • October 2 – 8 (now) — Brown Vintage Zombie Mask (Vintage Halloween) — survive two Waves in any Survival without dying;
  • October 9 – 15 — Weathered Vintage Mummy Mask — complete three Taxi Fares;
  • October 16 – 22 — Brown Vintage Werewolf Mask — win one Adversary Mode;
  • October 23 – 29 — Gray Jumping Spider Mask — survive four Waves in any Survival without dying;
  • October 30 – November 5 — Gray Hooded Skull Mask — win one Adversary Mode.
Each challenge will award GTA$ 200,000 instead of the usual 100k, and completing the first three unlocks the special Vinewood Undead Collection, which includes:
  • Slasher Clown Outfit (based on one of the roaming Slashers in Freemode);
  • the rare Please Stop Me Mask;
  • Vinewood Zombie Tee;
  • Skulls livery for the Mammoth Avenger.

The Vinewood Undead Collection items.

These are genuinely cool items. The outfit completes the set for players who’ve previously dressed up as The Driver, Sackslasher, or The Psycho.

The Slasher Clown Outfit is finally being added to the game!

The Please Stop Me mask is a direct nod to Manhunt, where some enemies wore the same one.

What Else We Do in the Shadows

Beyond the content above, there’s a bit of new material — mostly returning Halloween favorites. For example, the Secret Lab mission is back, and this year it awards the Gray Space Interloper Outfit, which only differs from the one tied to the movie props collectibles by color.

The Gray Space Interloper Outfit may look familiar — and for good reason.

UFOs will once again hover over the state, appearing around the 12th–15th of the month. An unusual text message will be sent to all Higgins Helitours pilots who decide to check during their tourist flights whether those flying saucers are really just weather balloons.

Halloween SMS sent to Helitours pilots.

The traditional ghost photography activity is also back. Nine out of ten spirits are returning from previous years, mixing those from Los Santos with ones from outside the city. But, as always, the tenth ghost is unique — it’s a familiar face from GTA 5 Story.
This time, it’s…
…Jay Norris, the founder and CEO of Lifeinvader — the same man whose head Michael famously blew off live on air.

Those who photograph all ten ghosts will receive, in addition to previous rewards, the Ghosts Exposed Cap, which pairs perfectly with the ghost hunters uniform.

You can wear the Ghosts Exposed cap facing forwards or backwards.
