2025 Year in Review

The year is coming to an end — a year that was supposed to become the year of a major release, possibly the most important one in history. However, things turned out a little differently, and now we all have high expectations for the next one. So for 2026, let us wish for the most important thing of all — good health.

Year 2025: OBLITERATED

GTA 6

Initially, the release of GTA 6 was planned for this year, but the developers needed more time and postponed the game to May 26 of the next one. After that, a major showcase took place. During it, we were presented with the second trailer, 70 screenshots, dozens of artworks, and a fair amount of new information.

Unfortunately, that turned out to be the last piece of positive official news about the long-awaited project. In November, a second delay within the same year was announced — to November 19, 2026. It’s difficult to predict what will happen next, but for now we remain fairly optimistic about the current release date. If everything goes according to plan, a year from now we should finally learn Jason and Lucia’s story and explore Grand Theft Auto VI inside and out.

There was also one more important GTA VI related initiative on our part. We launched a petition asking for Ukrainian localization. At the time of writing, four months later, it has already collected 1,669 signatures in support of the #AddUkrainianLanguagetoGTA6 initiative. If you haven’t done so yet, now is the perfect time to join in and make one more important wish. Sign the petition

GTA Online

While there are still more than 10 months left before we step into a brand-new game world, we continue living in one that already feels like home. Thankfully, the developers haven’t abandoned GTA Online. As tradition dictates, twice a year they treat us to new themed updates.

In summer, we got busy laundering money, and in winter, we were able to purchase Mansions and even witnessed Michael’s return. And judging by everything, the story isn’t over yet — in about six months, we may be in for something resembling a finale.

Grand Theft Auto

Red Dead

For fans of westerns, the year was packed with events that can be described in different ways — both good and not so good.

Mafia: The Old Country

Those who were definitely satisfied were fans of mafia stories. While it wasn’t a full-fledged fourth entry in the saga, Mafia: The Old Country immediately proved itself after release as a solid video game with an engaging story. Sales exceeded 1 million copies, and the success was reinforced by a great expansion.

And even though it wasn’t chosen at major award ceremonies, respected outlets still highlighted it in their rankings: Digital Foundry — as one of the most visually impressive projects of the year; and The New York Times — as one of the video games of the year overall.

MindsEye

Those who believed in the new title by Leslie Benzies, former president of Rockstar North, were left disappointed. MindsEye suffered from everything that can possibly go wrong with a video game: a scandal before release, a scandal after release, a huge number of unbearable bugs, and terrible review scores. Build A Rocket Boy is still trying to fix its mistakes, but half a year has already passed, and it seems that saving the game no longer makes much sense. It remains only in “worst of the year” lists — and in the nightmares of those who played it.

Rockstar Games

For the company, everything initially seemed to be running in its usual working mode — crunch, delays, problems, but nothing out of the ordinary. The real trouble began two months ago, when Rockstar Games entered an open confrontation with a group of its now former employees. This escalated into a case involving potential union-busting, the outcome of which we may only see next year. For Dan Houser, 2025 turned out to be extremely successful thanks to the launch of his comic American Caper. And even though the author has not been a “rock star” for almost six years, he remains inseparably linked to R*. As a result, wherever he appeared — an expo, a podcast, TV, or radio — he inevitably had to talk about his past work.

GCU

Over the past year, we implemented many useful and interesting features, launched a full English version of the website, and did everything we could to make your experience as a reader, viewer, and community member even more enjoyable. This is exactly what we plan to continue doing.

GCU Modeling Team

Despite all hardships, our modding team continues to delight us with great releases.

In Loving Memory

We cannot fail to mention the talented individuals for whom 2025 became their final year:
  • Roy Ayers — host of Fusion FM in GTA IV and performer of songs in other entries;
  • Drew Larg — performer of the first country song in the series’ history;
  • Michael Madsen — the voice of Toni Cipriani in GTA 3;
  • Ozzy Osbourne;
  • Graham Greene — actor who voiced the Native American character Rains Fall in RDR 2;
  • Diane Keaton — actress who played Kay Adams in The Godfather trilogy;
  • D’Angelo — performer of Unshaken from RDR 2;
  • Walter Houser — father of the brothers who founded Rockstar Games, and a saxophonist featured in GTA IV;
  • Paul Daniel “Ace” Frehley — member of the legendary band Kiss, co-performer of Strutter on K-DST radio in GTA: SA;
