Five Cut Tracks from GTA 1 Have Been Found

More than a year has passed, and it is still unclear how the music on the YouTube channel @grandtheftautotracks has avoided takedowns by the copyright holder. It is also unknown who is behind the channel. There is some suspicion that it might be Colin Anderson, who was responsible for the radio stations in the early Grand Theft Auto games, although he himself claimed that the link was merely shared with him.

In any case, the channel hosts priceless tracks from old games, including Space Station: Silicon Valley (1998). And this past weekend, five tracks recorded for GTA 1 were uploaded there — tracks that never made it into the final game. They were originally used as promotional material on the official DMA Design website, which, of course, no longer exists.
  • Dr. Lips — Let Me Feel The Groove is a high-BPM rave/dance track. Some of its fragments can be heard in GTA 2.
  • Grand Theft Auto — MEGABNCE is a compilation that mixes tracks from all the radio stations of the original game.
  • Retrograde — Benzoate (Alternate Take) is an alt version of the drum-and-bass track from Brooklyn Underground FM. Some of its fragments can also be heard in the sequel.
  • Steve Banks — Keith Rap is a track produced by programmer Steve Banks using recorded voice lines of lead programmer Keith Hamilton. These were intended as NPC phrases but were never used. Preserved as a joke.
  • Technophiliak — Lagerstar (Alternate Take) is an alt, longer version of the techno track that plays on The Fix FM.
