GTA 5 Cut by Over 125 GB — And It Still Runs

19Sometimes Potato Mode — with all graphics settings pushed to the absolute minimum — just isn’t enough for fans. So they go even further, like what was recently done with GTA 5.
Grand Theft Auto V was optimized so aggressively that its size was reduced from 128 GB to just 2.5 GB (North Yankton alone taking up 2 GB). Missions, audio, graphical effects, the ability to switch between protagonists (only Michael remains playable), and most of the map (leaving just a small area around his house) were removed. Weapons, vehicles, and the police, however, were left intact.
A working prototype managed to run at 30 fps on a low-spec Brazilian government-issued netbook. Since computer hardware is expensive in this Latin American country due to high import taxes, there’s always demand for experiments like this.
