007 First Light Was Delayed Thanks to GTA 6

Today marked the release of 007 First Light, a big-budget game about James Bond, the world’s most famous spy. The launch became possible thanks to the delay of GTA 6 to autumn. Originally, IO Interactive — the studio behind the Hitman series — planned to release its new project on March 27, largely because competing with Grand Theft Auto VI, previously scheduled for May 26, seemed pointless. Company head Hakan Abrak had even spoken positively about the idea of two major titles launching just two months apart. But once everyone learned that the most anticipated entertainment product in the world was being delayed, the Danish studio pushed its own game back to May 27. The CEO openly admits the two events are connected.

It would be a lie if I said, ‘no, I don’t care’. GTA is a huge behemoth in our industry. And that it got pushed gave us a bit more breathing room, and as you know, we also pushed the game just to make sure it gets the extra polish in. So, all that could then happen. We appreciate that. We never wish anyone ill. They have their good reasons for pushing it. I am certain it’s going be amazing.
