1During a preliminary hearing in the case “Rockstar Games vs. the Union,” the topic of GTA 6 multiplayer mode was brought up. One of the dismissed employees had sent a message referring to the number of players in multiplayer sessions. It appears that this was previously interpreted as “specific game features from upcoming and unannounced titles”.
The employer did not want more than five people from a 56-person team to be absent at the same time. However, the employee is confident that a company with a large number of testers is capable of assembling a 32-player session without imposing restrictions on time off. In court, Rockstar’s representative described this as “highly confidential and commercially sensitive information relating to the content and features of an unannounced online service”.
However, this is not really a disclosure of this particular aspect of the new Online, but rather a confirmation of what was already known thanks to the 2022 leaks. Perhaps the plaintiff should have cited this fact as a counterargument.
Nevertheless, 32 players in a single session is a definite disappointment for fans. Of course, rumors suggesting a number three times higher were not taken seriously, but some level of progress compared to GTA Online was still expected, where up to 30 players can be in the same session at once (with two additional slots reserved for spectators).
