Will We Be Able to Pick Up Prostitutes in GTA 6?

0On June 2, 1975, events unfolded in Lyon, France, that ultimately led to the establishment of the International Whores’ Day. Half a century later, this unofficial holiday of the sex-work community gives us something serious to think about... GTA 6, of course.
In the Trailers, especially the second one, we’re shown more than just a pair of young criminals — we’re shown two young criminals hopelessly in love with each other. We still don’t know how the adventure of these modern-day Bonnie and Clyde will end (hopefully not the same way), but for now, they’re a joy to watch. It’s exactly the kind of relationship many people would love to have. Against that backdrop, how could the mechanic of picking up prostitutes — a feature present in almost every game in the series since GTA 3 — still exist? Can you really imagine Jason lovingly hugging and kissing Lucia, only for the player to take control and immediately head to a brothel to hire a sex worker?
For an audience like Grand Theft Auto, that might even be amusing. But it would also seriously undermine the game’s atmosphere. For the same reason, family man John Marston can’t hire prostitutes in RDR 1, while Michael De Santa infidelity in GTA 5 made such interactions entirely believable.
A visit to a strip club, on the other hand, feels perfectly reasonable and even natural within the story. Perhaps players will be able to enjoy performances not only from female dancers but also from male entertainers.
Hiring prostitutes, however, feels completely unnecessary and will most likely be removed in service of the narrative. That doesn’t mean the world’s oldest profession — and one of the franchise’s most iconic elements — won’t appear in Grand Theft Auto VI at all. After all, prostitutes in GTA have traditionally served not only as a source of entertainment but also as a way to restore the protagonist’s health, even though real life works exactly the opposite way. We’re confident there will be plenty of sex workers throughout the game world, catering to a wide range of tastes. What may be missing is the ability to engage in sexual encounters with them.
That said, this likely applies only to Story Mode. In the multiplayer component, a (once again?) silent Protagonist, unconstrained by morality or a committed relationship, should be free to write their own story — complete with Blackjack and Hookers. The important thing is that the developers avoid repeating a mistake from GTA Online. If you remember, female player characters used exactly the same animations as male characters when receiving intimate services, which looked extremely strange.
