In December, Anthony Armstrong from Ubisoft Toronto reached out on his LinkedIn page to Rockstar Games and Rockstar Toronto on behalf of a relative who is terminally ill with cancer. Doctors estimate he has only 6–12 months left to live, which means that, as a huge Grand Theft Auto fan, he may not live to see GTA 6. At best, he might live to see the game’s release.

The original post.

The Canadian developer also wrote that he fully understood the risks the company would be taking in such a situation, as well as the need to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Unsurprisingly, the original post was deleted after two updates. The first stated that he had been contacted by Take-Two, while the second mentioned “great news”, though without any details. Since everything ended on such a positive note, we can assume that the fan will indeed get a chance to play Grand Theft Auto VI among the very first people (aside from the developers themselves).

Some skeptics might suspect Rockstar of reputation laundering in light of the recent union-related scandal. However, it’s worth noting that the company has done something similar before — back in 2018, when they allowed a patient with another serious diagnosis to play the then-unreleased RDR 2.
