Saints Row Prequel Idea Ghosted

At the end of last year, following a major interview with Chris Stockman, the design director of Saints Row 1, he revealed that he had been contacted about his idea to create a prequel. Fans were excited — for the 20th anniversary of the original, they might have seen the franchise brought back to life.

However, those hopes were not meant to be. In a conversation on Discord, the developer said that Embracer Group, which owns the intellectual property rights, ignored him. Stockman also believes that the Saints Row series is dead and that the company has no intention of doing anything with it.

If that is indeed the case — and it most likely is, considering that after the unsuccessful 2022 reboot nothing new has been released or announced — it would mean the quiet disappearance of yet another GTA clone that was once considered a competitor to Grand Theft Auto.
