In the Sunday Times Rich List of the wealthiest individuals and families in the UK, compiled by The Times (not to be confused with the American Time magazine), Sam and Dan Houser, co-founders of Rockstar Games, have taken the 312th spot out of 350, with a combined fortune of £400 million (over $537M). This puts them third out of three gaming-related entries on the list — the two wealthier ones hail from the mobile gaming sector, specifically the creators of the Candy Crush series.

Celebrating from left to right: Sam Houser, Leslie Benzies, Aaron Garbut, and Dan Houser. The second and fourth are no longer with R*.

Compared to last year, the brothers’ fortune increased by £50 million, moving them up nearly 40 places from their previous 350th position. Over the past five years (since 2020), their wealth has grown by £100M.

Where does all this money come from? According to a six-year-old investigation, the Housers receive royalties from games released by their company — major franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption — and reportedly manage to avoid paying taxes.
