For a game set more than a century ago, historical accuracy and authenticity are crucial. That’s why the developers turned to Professor John Dickie, a leading authority on the Cosa Nostra. After watching footage from Mafia: The Old Country, the expert praised the game for its authenticity — from the initiation scene to the believable backstory of the protagonist who once worked in sulfur mines, and many other well-researched details. The only notable inaccuracy he pointed out — the presence of a volcano in western Sicily, where the Mafia originated, rather than in the east — he dismissed as a creative liberty.
This week’s exclusive Monday reveal gives a closer look at the game’s main characters, all part of the Family.
- Enzo Favara (protagonist) — a carusu, forced to work in sulfur mines from early childhood. He seizes a rare chance to escape and ends up joining the Torrisi crime family, where he becomes a loyal soldier.
- Don Bernardo Torrisi — head of the clan. Starting from nothing after his family lost their farm to debt, he climbed the ranks of the underworld. Now he’s a successful businessman — both legitimate and otherwise.
- Isabella Torrisi — the Don’s daughter, dreaming of freedom and longing to escape her father’s tight control.
- Luca — the Don’s right-hand man. He was the one who recognized Enzo’s potential as fresh blood for the organization. Often at odds with Tino over how the Family should operate.
- Cesare — the Don’s nephew, eager to earn his place in the Family but often pushed away by its members. He forms a bond with Enzo after their introduction.
- Tino — the consigliere, leaning toward violent solutions, which causes friction with the more diplomatic Luca. He remains wary of Enzo’s loyalty.
