Mafia: The Old Country was officially released today, although some players got access as early as Thursday (schedule), and a few even before that.
Interestingly, a Day 0 patch was rolled out yesterday. However, this wasn’t a rushed hotfix meant to squash as many bugs as possible. On the contrary — the prequel to Mafia launched without major issues or bugs, and its solid release is reflected in generally positive reviews from various outlets:
On Metacritic, over 50 critic reviews for the PC version have been aggregated, giving it a score in line with earlier entries in the series:
  • Mafia: The Old Country — 76,
  • Mafia: Definitive Edition — 78,
  • Mafia 3 — 62,
  • Mafia 2 — 77,
  • Mafia 1 — 88.
Steam users are also showing support — 80% of two thousand reviews are positive. That’s just five percent lower than Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. The peak concurrent player count has reached over 35,000 — that’s how many are playing right now, and the number keeps growing.

Bonus for fans of the prequel’s music. The official Mafia: The Old Country soundtrack (OST) is now available. You can find it on multiple music platforms (Apple Music, Spotify, and others). No subscription? You can still listen for free on SoundCloud.
