A week since the official release of Mafia: The Old Country has passed quite calmly, but that doesn’t mean there’s been no news.
On Wednesday, the developers released a small hotfix for the PC version that fixes an issue where ground textures would occasionally disappear on certain graphics cards. They also announced that in the coming months they will implement the Free Ride mode. It will compensate for the absence of an open game world, allowing mobsters to explore the beauty of Sicily without being tied to the storyline. We can expect some new activities as well. All of this will be free (apparently in the form of a small update).
Yesterday, Thursday, exactly seven days after the actual launch, Hangar 13 published a small set of statistics, according to which during this period players have:
Unfortunately, there’s no information on sales figures, which suggests that the one-million-copies-sold milestone has not yet been reached. This is supported by a report from Sensor Tower analysts. According to their estimates, within five days (as of August 13), the Mafia prequel was purchased 800,000 times. Nearly half of that came from PS5, about a third from PC, and the rest from Xbox Series X/S. They also claim the average playtime is 8.8 hours.
By the way, on Steam the share of positive reviews has dropped by nine percentage points, down to 71%. However, the total number of reviews has grown from 2,000 to 13,000. Peak concurrent players did not surpass 36,000 — the new Mafia is just over a thousand short of the original remake and more than 10,000 behind Mafia 3.
As for Metacritic, the current scores are as follows:
