From now on, Rockstar Games will publish GTA: Trilogy — Definitive Edition for Switch on physical media by itself, without Nintendo being involved. Because of this, buyers can expect several changes.
The most requested by players is that all three games are included entirely on the cartridges, without needing to download them from the Internet. The previously released versions, since November 2021, contained most of III and San Andreas, but still required an online connection for updates. As for Vice City, it had to be downloaded in full.
Now, however, there is some confusion, since retailers show different information. On U.S. Amazon, where the new cartridges will be available starting Monday, August 25, the cover no longer has the Download Required label as before. Meanwhile, on the U.K.’s Very it is stated that there is no cartridge in the box at all — only a code for the digital version. Canadian retailers cannot say anything concrete. That means there’s no doubt about the European release, but the North American one still has nuances yet to be clarified. But there’s an undeniable plus to this story — physical copies of the Grand Theft Auto collection will drop in price by half. The new price: $30 USD or £25 GBP. Previously, it was $60 or £55.
Whether the same will happen with other R* games released on the hybrid platform — L.A. Noire and RDR 1? Remains unknown for now.
