The Language Question of GTA 6: With Russian, but Without Ukrainian and Turkish

It was not separately announced which languages will be available in GTA 6. But we can safely say there will be at least thirteen. They became known from three lists. The first is the list of languages in which users view materials on the official developers’ website. The second is the available subtitle options for the second trailer. The third is the open job postings for localization testers at Rockstar Lincoln. In principle, this is already the standard R* set used in their latest projects and in supporting Onlines. However, some questions still need to be addressed.
Despite the fact that the Russian-language version of the second trailer is missing from the devs’ Russian YouTube channel (inactive since early 2022), it is available in the PlayStation Store.
An excellent example to follow is another game from the same rights holder — Mafia: The Old Country. Ukrainian was not announced for it right away, but within several months after the announcement the much-desired news about Ukrainian localization still came. So, T2 already has experience with one of the few studios that could make this real. Of course, the scale of the Mafia prequel and GTA VI are incomparable, but the prospect of working on the most anticipated video game of all time, plus translating fresh content for the new Online and accompanying publications — that’s a real golden ticket for UnlocTeam, SBT Localization, or any other Ukrainian company.
By the way, Ukrainian GTA fan localizations are extremely popular.
Will Russian be in GTA 6?
Doubts about it remained until the big premiere on May 6. It seemed that the sanctions caused by the war unleashed in Ukraine put an end not only to the possibility of entering the Russian market but also to cooperating with local localization teams. However, part of our audience did not believe that the creators and publishers would go so far as to exclude Russian from the list of supported languages. And that’s how it turned out. Apparently, Rockstar Games and/or Take-Two see Russian as the primary language in the post-Soviet space, and perhaps also hope that the business restrictions will be lifted before release. Even if that does not happen in the foreseeable future, the game will definitely be sold for the next 10 years.Despite the fact that the Russian-language version of the second trailer is missing from the devs’ Russian YouTube channel (inactive since early 2022), it is available in the PlayStation Store.
Will Ukrainian be in GTA 6?
Over the three and a half years of full-scale invasion, Ukrainian has been experiencing an incredible rise. More and more gamers, both inside the country and abroad, are switching to their native language while doing what they love. This is directly reflected in its position among the top 15 most-used interface languages on Steam and in numerous new releases that include this crucial option for every Ukrainian. Moreover, both the quantity and quality keep growing, and among video games with Ukrainian localization one can find everything — from indie projects to AAA titles: Baldur’s Gate 3, Counter-Strike 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and more.An excellent example to follow is another game from the same rights holder — Mafia: The Old Country. Will Turkish be in GTA 6?
This year, the #WeWantGTA6inTurkish campaign gained significant momentum on social media. Turkish also has a strong position on Steam. However, in the new Mafia it was not implemented, even though there was demand. At the same time, the movement had a downside — it quickly shifted into the category of spam, which only made things worse.
