As long as GTA 6 hasn’t been released (and that won’t happen for at least another eight months), we’ll keep running into financial forecasts. Another one has just been shared by an insider who claims to be familiar with Take-Two internal projections. According to him, the company expects the game to sell 18–20 million copies within the first 24 hours. These numbers are based on the amount of gamers who’ve added it to their wishlists on PlayStation Network and Xbox Store, as well as on retailer pre-orders.
Selling 18–20 million doesn’t sound unrealistic for a project like Grand Theft Auto VI. Some analysts even believe the figure will reach 25M. For comparison: GTA 5 managed almost half that — just over 11 million copies sold in the first 24 hours. Given today’s accessibility of games and the overwhelming hype surrounding project, 20M seems more than achievable.
The number of “Add to Wishlist” clicks doesn’t actually mean much. At best, it might be useful to analytics teams. The real question is where the bit about retailer pre-orders came from. So far, there hasn’t been any information — not even rumors — about retailers having access to pre-order options. The only exception is a quirky approach from Malaysia.
