Scarface: The World Is Yours Appears on Steam and EGS — Strangely Enough

It’s always nice when a game you played 15–20 years ago finally shows up in digital stores — and you can add it to your virtual collection. Today, Scarface: The World Is Yours (2006) fans had just that moment of joy. A somewhat forgotten GTA-clone of the 1983 movie Scarface, offering an alternate story for Tony Montana, suddenly appeared on Steam and Epic Games Store.
On Steam, there’s only a product page for now — you can’t buy the game yet. In EGS, though, it’s already up for sale at $30. “Pretty steep for a nearly 20-year-old game, but all right — I’ll grab it once there’s a good discount,” many of us probably thought. But things aren’t that simple.
The release includes pre-installed SilentPatch and Fusion Fix, as well as AI-upscaled textures (which can be turned off). Later, the author of the first patch revealed that nobody had contacted him — though the people behind the release had reached out to the second mod’s developer.
What’s more, it turns out the people who uploaded the build don’t have permission from Universal.
There’s a reason this game never appeared in digital distribution all these years — the rights holder never gave the green light. And no one really knows who’s behind this, since the company called EC Digital was dissolved six years ago. Still, the “publisher” issued a statement, saying the release went live ahead of schedule and that certain negotiations are still ongoing.
It’s unclear whether this is a scam, a troll move, or a genuine attempt to bring a classic back. But it’s fairly safe to say the game will soon disappear from both Steam and Epic Games Store. At least this situation draws attention to the fact that Scarface: The World Is Yours is still in demand — and who knows, maybe one day it’ll return officially.

Here's what I found out so far:

* TAG (Fusion Fix author) WAS contacted, they were unable to reach me because of a lost Discord friend invite (despite my e-mail being public)
* Movie IP rights holder appears to be unaware of this
* Store listings were put early in error
