Possessed Animals in GTA Online

Possessed Animals were added to GTA Online in October 2023 and appear during Halloween celebrations: • 42/2023 • 43/2023 • 44/2024 • 45/2024 • 38/2025 • 39/2025 • 40/2025 • 41/2025 • 42/2025 •

Spawn Locations and Conditions

Possessed animals appear in all versions, including the Legacy versions on PC, PS4, and Xbox One — even though animals don’t exist in Freemode there. Each species has several spawn areas where it can be encountered, with multiple points inside each area where they might appear.

An animal will only appear if the following conditions are met:

• to be in the area outdoors, not inside a building;
• to be on foot — using a vehicle will prevent the event from triggering;
• have spent at least 16 minutes of real time in the session (which equals 8 in-game hours);
• the time of day had to be night — between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM.

Note that this random event does not depend on the session type and triggers fairly rarely.

Attacks and Species

At first, the animal appears on the map and radar as a blue marker, looking completely normal. When you approach, the marker turns red, and the creature takes on a dark appearance surrounded by red mist. Its body becomes bloodied, its eyes glow red — and from that moment, it relentlessly attacks the player. Behavior by species:

• Pug deals the least damage.
• Coyote is small and quick.
• Boar is large and clumsy (easy to kite by circling around).
• Deer is fast with sharp antlers (can impale you in seconds).
• Cougar is a deadly predator (can kill with a single hit, even without demonic possession).

The nightmare ends in several cases: if the player dies, if the creature is killed, if another event begins, if the player leaves the designated area, or if the possessed animal fails to reach its target. Getting into a vehicle will make it simply run away.
