12Despite the fact that Take-Two has recently been frequently demanding the removal or banning of various mods, the number of interesting fan projects keeps growing. One of the most promising among them is GTA: Carcer City — a recreation of the city from Manhunt 1 on the GTA: San Andreas engine. Carcer City is also mentioned in many entries of the Grand Theft Auto series. It is a composite depiction of major American Rust Belt metropolises such as Detroit (Michigan), Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), Cleveland (Ohio), and others.
DeadpoolMKD, the author of the mod, and his team are not only porting object models and textures from the 2003 original, but are also creating a fully realized, living world. Depressive, as Carcer City should be, yet alive. With a functioning metro system, local police, scripted pedestrian and vehicle paths. To add variety to the experience, new vehicles are also being introduced.
There will also be a story campaign. The year is 2001. Police officer Liam O’Malligan, who was unjustly dismissed from the force and is forced to work for criminals and former colleagues alike. Other characters include gang members and fellow cops.
The musical side of the project hasn’t been overlooked either. The main theme is already finished and fits perfectly into the overall atmosphere. Work is currently underway on 10 radio stations.
The first playable demo is planned to be released in two months — on March 9.
