Rockstar Games Stops Selling Its Own Video Games in Brazil

14Since yesterday, March 16, Rockstar Games has stopped selling its video games in Brazil through the Rockstar Games Launcher and Rockstar Store. However, virtual currencies for multiplayers (Shark Cards for GTA Online and Gold Bars for Red Dead Online) remain available for purchase. Players who already own titles in RGL will still have access to them in their library.
The reason behind this decision is another online child protection law — Brazilian Digital Statute of the Child and Adolescent (Digital ECA). However, around a dozen Rockstar titles are still available for purchase on other digital platforms, including PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
Most likely, due to relatively low revenue in the region, the developers chose not to compete for the market and instead simply removed nearly all of their products from their own storefront. Moreover, no prior announcement was made, effectively giving Brazilian players no last-minute chance to stock up in the company’s own store (which, frankly, is much more expensive than its competitors).
