Officially announced last month Nintendo Switch 2, which will go on sale this year, became a topic of discussion during a recent investor conversation with Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick. Here’s what he had to say:
We’ve had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we’ve supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release.

There was a time when Nintendo platforms are really geared at younger audiences and that was reflected in our release schedule. And now today with Switch and potentially with Switch 2, the Switch device can support any audience.

As you may have noted, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch [2].
Aside from Civilization VII, which launched yesterday, the CEO did not mention any specific titles from Take-Two’s subsidiaries, Rockstar Games or 2K Games, that might be released on the new hybrid console. However, rumors have been circulating for the past month that RDR 2 will be part of the launch lineup. This highly acclaimed and massively popular western could boost interest in the console. Based on recent online reports, Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to be one of two T2 titles available at launch for the NS2. We will get confirmation on April 2, when Nintendo holds another showcase.

Of course, the biggest question is whether GTA 6 will be available for Switch 2 owners. However, the real concern is if the platform has enough power to run Grand Theft Auto VI. Some believe it will be on par with the PS4 or PS4 Pro, but so far, the game has only been confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S (PC is also expected, though not officially announced). Nothing can be said for certain until official information is released.

Beyond these titles, the lineup of upcoming projects remains impressive. Mafia: The Old Country is set to release in the summer, and Borderlands 4 is expected later in the year. For Take-Two, as well as any other major industry player, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 presents a major opportunity. Its predecessor is the third best-selling console of all time, with over 150 mln units sold. It’s now just under 5 million units behind the Nintendo DS and about 10 million away from the PlayStation 2, the most successful gaming console in history. And while those two systems are over 20 and 25 years old, respectively, the Switch was released just eight years ago.
