On June 20, it was announced that Mafia: The Old Country had gone gold — meaning the final version was sent off for physical production and to digital storefronts. Any further fixes will come via a day-one patch and follow-up updates.

Four days later, an official FAQ was posted on reddit.com, revealing some new details.
  • There are no plans for multiplayer.
  • Story DLC isn’t planned either.
Then, last Wednesday, on July 2, it was reported that 2.5 million players had added the Mafia prequel to their wishlists on Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Store. Of course, that doesn’t guarantee launch sales on the same scale, but it clearly shows strong public interest.

Right between these announcements, the fifth developer diary was released. It showcases how the team at Hangar 13 worked on sound design for weapons, vehicles, and more. Real-life prototypes used for recording and recreation are shown, and the presence of a train — or possibly multiple trains — in the game is confirmed.
And on the very last day of June, just a week ago, IGN announced that every Monday in July, they’ll be publishing exclusive content about the new Mafia installment on their site and YouTube channel. Today marks the first of those Mondays, and we got a full 9 minutes of gameplay. The footage features part of Chapter 5 but is edited to avoid spoilers. Enzo receives a mission from Don Torrisi, meets a weapons dealer named Valerio, picks out his gear, and heads off by car to handle a problem. At the beginning of the mission, the protagonist enters stealth mode — tossing coins to distract enemies and throwing knives. But the confrontation quickly escalates, and we see the protagonist engage in a shootout, throw grenades, and heal himself using a wrist wrap.
Next Monday, journalists will publish a hands-on preview based on three hours of playtime in Mafia: The Old Country. So we can expect more fresh and intriguing details soon.
