Ukrainian Localizers Express Readiness to Work on GTA 6 (Exclusive)

0SBT Localization gave a big boost to the petition for adding Ukrainian language to the upcoming GTA 6. On top of that, their representatives answered a few of our questions directly related to the topic.
GCU: The GTA franchise is over 25 years old. It’s one of the coolest in the gaming industry, but so far it has only ever been translated by fans. Is there any chance GTA VI will finally get an official localization?
SBT: Even though Ukrainian hasn’t been announced, we believe there’s still a chance. We know of cases where an official localization was added almost at the last moment. And even if it comes after release, that would still be a win — because usually it means the door is open for Ukrainian in future games. The main thing here is to keep knocking on the developers’ door persistently, but politely, using every possible channel.
GCU: GTA 6 localizing isn’t just about translating subtitles and menus. It’s also ongoing support with new content for the next Online, plus constant news updates — not just with new DLC, but also with weekly multiplayer changes for the next 10–15 years, if GTA 5 example is anything to go by. That’s very different from, say, localizing the new Mafia. Is your team ready for that kind of challenge?
SBT: Continuous support for game updates is not a problem for us. This has been standard practice for several years now, even if players don’t always notice it.
GCU: Grand Theft Auto has a long history, and for fans it’s important not to lose the context tied to references from earlier games. Do you have people on your team who specialize in this, who’ve played GTA Online and just love the series?
SBT: We do have people familiar with the GTA series, including GTA Online. In any case, research and context-hunting are an essential part of translation work, so we’re confident we’ll handle the project once it comes our way. Sign the petition
