GTA 6 Billboard in Times Square Is Not New

7The day ads for GTA 6 appear on the streets of the world’s biggest cities can be considered the official start of the game’s promo campaign. For a brief moment, that day seemed to come yesterday evening, after viewers spotted a billboard featuring artwork from the second trailer on Times Square in one of the frames of a YouTube video — from the Manhunt show (which has nothing to do with video games).
But how could a huge Grand Theft Auto VI billboard appear in such a place without the internet exploding over it? The answer is simple: it’s old footage. The video was clearly edited — which takes time — and you can also spot references to May in it. Later, a user confirmed that this is what New York’s Times Square looked like five months ago.
Still, it’s a bit strange that no one noticed such a thing back then. Perhaps that’s because it was around the release of Trailer 2 and fans were too busy dissecting the new material. A weak explanation, maybe, but there doesn’t seem to be a better one.
But wait — was it really a GTA VI ad? Not exactly. If you look closely, you can see a YouTube Gaming logo in the corner, which means it wasn’t placed there by Rockstar Games or Take-Two.
I can confirm this isn’t new. I saw it a few months ago. I’ve never seen anyone talk about it, though.

But this video is from May, 31. They made it a few days after Trailer 2. pic.twitter.com/oHApLKmtez
