9NVIDIA RTX Remix toolkit allows developers to modernize classic DirectX 8 and 9 games by adding ray tracing support. That’s exactly what xoxor4d — known for his mods for Call of Duty 4, Left 4 Dead 2, and Portal 2 — has done with GTA 4. The mod will even let players customize the lighting to their own preferences.
The project has already caught the attention of Digital Foundry, who dedicated an entire episode to it — also touching on the topic of notoriously rough PC launch. The episode was originally supposed to include a review of another major mod, the updated Fusion Fix, but that segment was cut due to time constraints, though a few mentions remained.
As we can see, there’s still plenty of work ahead. And yes — one of the upcoming updates is expected to improve Niko’s head and hair, which have become a running joke among fans.
The mod hasn’t been officially released yet — only the developer’s Patreon supporters have access to the test build. There’s no word on when (or if) a public release will happen. The thing is, with tools like RTX Remix and Fusion Fix, the need for an official Grand Theft Auto IV remaster — rumors of which keep surfacing but never materialize — becomes questionable. For Take-Two, that could even pose what they once called an “economic threat”.

It was originally supposed to cover both, but he pretty much cut all the Fusion Fix stuff to get the video done quicker, so yeah, we're kinda annoyed at our one chance of being on DF ending up on the cutting room floor because RTX has better engagement
