The Symbolism Behind GTA 6 New Release Date

May 26 is a rather symbolic date tied to several important events. In that sense, November 19 looks a bit less exciting. But now that GTA 6 is once again set to launch in a year (hopefully the last time we hear that phrase), this is the day that really matters.

It’s not a Tuesday, the day Rockstar Games traditionally releases its titles, but a Thursday. Some players — mostly on PC — will be waiting for the next weekly bonus event in GTA Online, while others will jump straight into the new game. The date lands a week before Thanksgiving and just eight days before the madness of Black Friday sales — a time when people are far more willing to spend money. And it’s not October, a month packed with major anniversaries in our calendar, a month that could easily be renamed Rocktober thanks to how many R* games debuted then.

There’s no official information yet, but it’s expected that The Game Awards will announce their Game of the Year nominees on the third Friday of November, meaning one day after the release. Meanwhile, the winners of the Golden Joystick Awards are revealed around the same time (this year it happens the day after tomorrow). Will the organizers of either event shift their schedules? Ignoring Grand Theft Auto VI doesn’t seem like an option.

On social media you might come across posts claiming that Bonnie and Clyde, whose story inspired GTA VI narrative, supposedly robbed their first bank on November 19. But that’s not true — no source mentions this date at all. Their first major robbery took place in the spring of 1932.

As for how much the developers cared that November 19 also happens to be International Men’s Day and World Toilet Day (yes, officially recognized by the UN) — well, we can only guess.
