RDR 1 Released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, iOS, Android

Today, throughout the day, RDR 1 (bundled with RDR: Undead Nightmare) became available on all platforms announced in the middle of last month:

• PS5 (requires 9.732 GB of free space),
• Xbox Series X/S (9.59 GB),
• Switch 2 (11.7 GB),
• iOS (3 GB),
• Android (2.74 GB).

The western and its zombie expansion are also included in the GTA+ subscription (console versions), the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, and the Netflix library (mobile).

Players who previously bought the game on PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the current-gen version for free. However, the Xbox 360 edition currently doesn’t offer this option — at least according to owners of the original release. Some reports claim that a free upgrade is possible, but only through the mobile app. Support has stated that the developers and Microsoft are working on fixing this issue.

If you don’t already own a copy, you can purchase one for $50 / £50 on consoles (Xbox and NS2 have a 50% discount for the next two weeks). The price in the App Store and Google Play is $40 / £40 (free for Netflix subscribers).

Not everyone can transfer their saves — only PS4 and Switch owners can do so. Achievements/trophies, however, must be earned again. The lists are identical to the old versions but treated as separate sets. There is a small convenience for transferred saves, though: once you start fulfilling a requirement, the achievement will unlock on your first action.

Players who have already tested the updated Red Dead Redemption I note not only the stated improvements but also increased draw distance, faster loading, a higher-quality pause-menu map, and various other welcome changes.
