New GTA 6 Leak in the Press Is Fake
9This week, several media outlets published stories about what was supposedly a new GTA 6 leak. However, this information — even though it was reprinted by the press — should not be trusted, as it turned out to be fake.
In the original Instagram post, user vice.city.alligator claimed the story supposedly went like this. While cleaning up their phone, they allegedly found a video from the game recorded during the pandemic, before the 2022 leaks, when Rockstar Games developers were working remotely. According to the post, the footage had been recorded by acquaintances who were developers at the company. The video was uploaded publicly only after those devs had left the company. It supposedly ended up in the poster’s hands after they asked those acquaintances to show something they had been working on. The poor quality was explained by the file being sent via email. A detailed story — but also quite suspicious, isn’t it? Nevertheless, several major outlets such as Kotaku and Insider Gaming were not deterred by these doubts and published articles about it for their audiences of hundreds of thousands. They did not remove the stories even after the fake was exposed.
So what reveals the forgery?

So what reveals the forgery?
- The overall visual quality and the use of the bottom overlay look very similar to many other fake screenshots and videos.
- The font used in the text does not match the one seen in the original leaks.
- The bridge visible in the background does not actually exist, judging by the two trailers.
- Even if the former employees are no longer connected to the company, they could still be easily identified by the work they were involved in, as claimed above, and punished under the full terms of the non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
