Monday is already just around the corner, and we may finally find out whether Best Buy’s email campaign was actually a reliable source regarding the imminent launch of GTA 6 pre-orders.

The existence of the email sent by the American retailer — as well as its authenticity — has been confirmed. At the same time, representatives of the retail chain have not issued any denial. Still, there’s no reason to be 100% certain that pre-orders will open next week.

Theory 1: Delay

No, not a delay of the Grand Theft Auto VI release date itself. But if Best Buy really did reveal the information ahead of schedule, Rockstar Games could decide to postpone the start of pre-orders. Just remember how company president Sam Houser reportedly wanted to react after the Trailer 1 announcement leaked.

Version 2: Hype

After the recent Game Informer situation, where the outlet clearly rode the wave hype, this possibility can’t be completely ruled out. It may not make much sense for a major retail chain, but for the developers of GTA VI — who are known for unconventional marketing tactics — it’s entirely plausible.

Version 3: Stock Market Play

A favorite strategy of anyone with access to genuinely valuable insider information — especially in America, where it’s practically elevated to an art form. Following the leak, Take-Two shares jumped by nearly $20 per stock, rising above $240. That alone increased the corporation’s market capitalization by roughly $2 billion.
