Thoughts On GTA 6: Marketing Campaign Timing And Physical Discs At Launch

13Alongside the latest financial report, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, spoke at unusual length about GTA 6, and his remarks continue to spark debate.
Well-known insider Tom Henderson believes the promotional campaign will launch during the first week of August, roughly around the same time as the company’s next investor meeting.
But if everything launches at once, the question becomes: how do you prevent spoilers — or worse, a pirated copy leaking before release? If that happens (as it did with all previous installments), it would be a devastating blow for what is arguably the most anticipated video game in history.
If you think it won’t happen, think again. The most recent example is Resident Evil: Requiem, which is scheduled to launch on February 27. Yet plot details from the ninth title have already surfaced online days ahead of release. The reason? Physical copies must be printed and shipped to retailers in advance. Somewhere along the distribution chain, on the way to the end customer, someone gets access — and the content ends up online prematurely. Capcom is now threatening legal action — but once the genie is out of the bottle, there’s no putting it back.
As inconvenient as it may be for some buyers, delaying physical copies might be the safer option — unless the developers come up with a reliable way to prevent leaks.
When Will The Marketing Campaign Begin?
After hearing that the marketing push would start in the summer, fans assumed that Rockstar Games PR team would be dazzling us with creative campaigns for a full six months leading up to release. However, it’s important to note that even if active promotion begins on August 31, it still technically counts as summer. So it may be wise to temper expectations and not anticipate flashy billboards and print ads as early as June. All of that could arrive a bit later.Well-known insider Tom Henderson believes the promotional campaign will launch during the first week of August, roughly around the same time as the company’s next investor meeting.
The Problem With Physical Copies
Another cause for concern is the publisher’s plan to release digital and physical versions simultaneously. On the one hand, this makes sense for Collector’s and Special editions, as well as bundles that may include a copy of the game together with a PS5 (or PS5 Pro). On the other hand, Grand Theft Auto VI could theoretically be sold twice within a few months — first digitally, and later on disc. A significant portion of the fanbase would undoubtedly want a boxed edition for their collection. But if everything launches at once, the question becomes: how do you prevent spoilers — or worse, a pirated copy leaking before release?
