Unlimited Resources

The company tries to provide its developers with virtually unlimited resources — financial, human, and creative alike. When asked whether Grand Theft Auto VI truly has an infinite budget, the CEO joked that his son Lucas (a stand-up comedian) was given an infinite wedding budget, yet still managed to exceed it.

Reasons for Console Exclusivity

The decision to launch the game on consoles first is driven by the desire to satisfy the core audience. According to the executive, if you fail to properly serve your key consumers, you may never reach the broader audience at all. (Previously revealed revenue distribution figures for GTA Online across platforms suggest that this approach makes sense.)

Zelnick denied that the lack of a day-one PC release is tied to marketing agreement with Sony regarding special PlayStation promotion rights. He explained that this is simply because “historically Rockstar Games gone to console first”.

Development Time

The article also highlighted that GTA VI has been in development for more than eight years — not twelve, as many people assume based on the release date of GTA 5. This means full development likely began shortly after work on RDR 2 was completed.
