Who’s Fueling the GTA 6 Hype Fire

As previously predicted, the end of spring is becoming a key period for showing something new related to GTA 6. On May 21, Take-Two will hold its financial report presentation, and the public is expecting news from Rockstar Games within the next week and a half.

During the presentation of its latest financial report, Sony did not directly mention Grand Theft Auto VI, but one of the slides featured artwork from the game alongside other released and upcoming titles considered among the most successful or anticipated projects.

At the same time, PS4 owners who do not yet own a newer console model but added GTA VI to their wishlist reportedly started receiving emails and console notifications encouraging them to upgrade to a PS5 in order to be ready for November 19.

Why is this important? PlayStation has a special marketing agreement with the developer and publisher, meaning they would certainly know whether the game is still scheduled for release this year.

The popular magazine, known for its previews of Rockstar titles, sent subscribers an intriguing message. It announced the next issue, which will be released this week. The cover is expected to feature artwork from an upcoming game. Four words in the message were hidden, and many believe they conceal the title Grand Theft Auto VI.

That said, there are plenty of other possibilities, including Tomb Raider, Control Resonant, and more. Besides, the publication did not cover RDR 2, R* last major release, in its usual fashion back in the day. It is also entirely possible that the journalists were simply having a little fun with clickbait.

But, naturally, the biggest source of noise comes from the fans themselves, who have been desperately waiting for news. This has once again resulted in fresh rumors and wild theories.

An unconfirmed claim is currently spreading online, allegedly originating from an employee of the toy retailer Smyths. According to the rumor, GTA VI pre-orders will open on Tuesday, May 12, with only one standard edition available for now, priced at £70.

The latest theory, hovering somewhere between plausible and absurd, suggests that the new chameleon paint color with a purple tint (Magenta/Cyan Flip) was added to the GTA+ bonuses for a reason. The last time a similar paint (Magenta/Orange Flip) became available was exactly one year ago — shortly before the reveal of Trailer 2.

There won’t be one. Instead, here’s the usual recommendation: don’t build massive expectations and get carried away by the hype. If no news appears, you won’t end up disappointed. And if Rockstar does reveal something, there will still be room for genuine surprise and excitement.
